How Do I Become a Personal Trainer in The UK?

You need two qualifications: a Level 2 in fitness instructing (gym instructor) and a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, from an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation such as Active IQ. At V1BE Academy you study both levels online in one pathway, usually in 3 to 6 months. Once you qualify, we offer you a self-employed placement at an affiliated gym near you.

Do I need Level 2 before Level 3?

Yes. Level 2 qualifies you to work as a gym instructor, and Level 3 builds on it so you can work as a personal trainer with your own clients. Our course includes both (Active IQ Level 2 Fitness Coach, then Level 3 Personal Trainer), so you can start with no fitness qualifications at all. If you already hold a Level 2, ask us about joining a Level 3 ONLY Qualification.

How long does it take to qualify as a personal trainer?

Most V1BE learners qualify in 3 to 6 months. The course is 294 guided learning hours, studied 90% online at your own pace, so the time depends on how many hours a week you put in. Learners in full time jobs usually study in the evenings and at weekends and finish nearer to 6 months.

How much does a personal trainer course cost?

Our Level 2 + Level 3 pathway costs £1,350 in total, including VAT. You can pay £25 to start, then 9 monthly payments of £149.
No interest, No fees, No credit checks.

For comparison, UK Level 2 + 3 courses we found range from about £950 to £2,200.

Is the V1BE Academy qualification recognised?

Yes. You gain Active IQ qualifications. Active IQ is an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual, and its Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) that UK gyms recognise alongside V1BE Academy being a CIMSPA Recognised Organisation.
